Tivo Network Configuration -------------------------- TiVo supports three different types of network connection: 1. ethernet 2. serial port PPP 3. modem PPP The AltEPG disk image can be configured to support all three types. When you build your disk from the standard disk image, you can select which type of connection you want to use. The following options are available: 1. AUTO 2. TURBONET (ethernet) 3. CACHECARD (ethernet) 4. TIVONET (ethernet) 5. TIVONET1 (ethernet) 6. TIVONET2 (ethernet) 7. AIRNET (ethernet) 8. PPPONDSS (serial PPP) 9. MODEM (modem PPP) There are several different drivers available for different network cards. If you choose any of the ethernet options, TiVo will try to install the appropriate driver. If driver installation fails, Tivo will use MODEM connections instead. Note that if you have a TIVONET card there are two drivers available. If you choose the TIVONET option, TiVo will try to install each of the TIVONET drivers in turn. If you choose the AUTO option, TiVo will try to install each of the ethernet dirvers in turn, until it finds one that works. If none works, Tivo will use MODEM connections instead. The AUTO option is the default option (ie the one set up in the standard disk image). Having built and installed your disk, if you want to change the network configuration, there are three ways to do this: 1. Remove the disk again, and re-run the disk configurator 2. Connect to Tivo via telnet, and run nic_config_tivo 3. Set a special callWaitingPrefix code, and make a test call For the last option, the special callWaitingPrefix codes are as follows: ,#0 AUTO ,#1 MODEM ,#2 PPPONDSS ,#3 TURBONET ,#4 CACHECARD ,#5 TIVONET ,#6 AIRNET If you set one of these prefixes and tell TiVo to make a test call, TiVo will change the network configuration *INSTEAD* of making the test call. (The TiVo User Interface will tell you that the call failed during preparation). You will receive a TiVo message to tell you that the change has been made. You will then need to reboot TiVo for the change to come into effect. Note that once you have made the change, if you want to make a "real" call, you will first need to clear the callWaitingPrefix code (or reset it to whatever it was before). # ************************************************************ # AltEPG Project Source Code Version Control # $FileID: git::root/etc/rc.d/networkConfiguration.txt $ # $Revision: altepg1.0c root 2011-09-17 23:39:32 +0100 Finalising altepg1.0c $ # Description: network configuration information # ************************************************************
